The launch of Anima, our new lifestyle imprint

I am Ellen Parnavelas and I am delighted to announce the launch of Anima, my new lifestyle list for Head of Zeus. Anima is a collection of books across a range of genres that will inspire people to challenge themselves, live well and enjoy life.

Anima is launching with Destination Simple by Brooke McAlary, a book of everyday rituals for a calmer, slower, happier life from the creator of the #1 ITunes health podcast Slow Your Home. This book appealed to my interest in the concept of ‘slow living’ and the idea that striving to question and develop the way you live your life is essential. Growing up in south-east London and going to a school where the children in my year collectively spoke 25 languages meant that I was exposed to different religious and international ideas and practices from a young age, so keeping an open mind has always been a necessity for me.

I am a Londoner, but I have always loved travel and the outdoors. Growing up in the city, I spent my childhood as the only girl in a gang of boys climbing trees in each other’s back gardens and playing in the dirt and then went on to travel the world: trekking in the Himalayas, riding horses in Mongolia and wild swimming in Lake Baikal. I wanted the list to reflect my love of outdoor pursuits so I am thrilled that we are publishing The Little Book of Building Fires by Sally Coulthard, a practical and inspiring gift book about how to chop, scrunch, stack and light a fire both indoors and out.

Starting Anima for Head of Zeus has given me the opportunity to bring everything I have always been interested in together to make beautiful and engaging books. Of course, the office lifestyle has often left me feeling cooped up so I have had to balance it out with high-adrenaline sports such as roller derby and strongwoman training, as well as playing in a band as part of London’s DIY punk scene. My passion for physical challenges, health and fitness is what drew me to commission The Wellness Rebel, a complete guide to sorting nutrition fact from fiction using evidence-based science and delicious recipes from biochemist, nutritionist and Instagram sensation Plantbased Pixie.

With other titles in the list including everything from This is Not a Sex Book by Chusita Fashion Fever to Painted Cities by Lorna Brown, I hope to continue to grow this innovative imprint that reflects my own interest in living a life that is diverse, challenging and enriching.
