HoZ breaks out THE GUNS OF EMPIRE

Head of Zeus will publish THE GUNS OF EMPIRE, book four of Django Wexler’s The Shadow Campaigns, this August.

Wexler’s “audacious and subversive” (Publishers Weekly) epic fantasy blends military campaigning, political revolution, spy craft and magic.

Described by the author as “either Bernard Cornwall's Sharpe with magic, or George RR Martin with guns”, The Shadow Campaigns have been published in Germany (Heyne), France (Panini), Italy (Fanucci), Poland (DW Rebis), and Russia (Fantastika) and were recently named in two different Reddit r/fantasy polls as (a) one of the World’s best Fantasy series and (b) one of the World’s most under-rated Fantasy series.

Here at Head of Zeus we wholeheartedly agree with (a) -- epic scope, innovative setting, brilliant cosmology, great action scenes, strong characters, snappy dialogue, and some very on-trend gender identity stuff -- and will be deploying our forces to see what we can do about (b). We've always wanted to publish this series. Only days after we first opened for business in 2012, we were engaged with Random House in one-on-one bidding war for the first three volumes of The Shadow Campaigns. Outgunned, we were eventually forced to leave the field. Four years on, we are delighted that we now have the chance to re-engage and re-write history!
